Illegal Waste Dumped in Belfast Includes Asbestos

During the coronavirus lockdown measures, many waste sites were closed to the public. This seemed to contribute to a rise in illegal dumping of rubbish and unwanted goods.

The Edenderry Mill complex saw a large amount illegal waste dumped in belfast. A mixture of rubbish has been dumped and was reported to include dangerous asbestos based boards, cylinders and general rubbish.

A Health Hazard

Asbestos is a hazardous material and should never be dumped anywhere. Asbestos should only be disposed of in a safe manner where there is no risk of contamination.

If you spot asbestos in any illegally dumped rubbish you should report it to the authorities so it can be made safe. We have many images of asbestos on our website and some of these were permitted to be used by the Health & Safety Executive.
