Mesothelioma Caused by Asbestos Exposure at School

As reported earlier on this blog, we wrote about our concerns of asbestos in schools. The Mirror reported a story of a very sad case in Liverpool. A lady was left widowed when her husband died last year from mesothelioma aged 53.

Asbestos Lagged Pipework

Mr Trimm was diagnosed with Mesothelioma. He said that as a young schoolboy he would skip lessons and spend time under the stage where there was asbestos lagged pipes. It is reported that his widow sued Liverpool City Council for £500,000, however the council agreed to a private payout to settle the case at London’s High Court.

The court heard how Mr Trimm was sent to fetch equipment from under the stage by the teachers. The court was told that this is where he was exposed to asbestos dust. He would also spend time there when he skipped Maths lessons by hiding under the stage.

The council settled the case confidentially and said they were “deeply sorry” for Mrs Trimm’s loss. A representative for the council said they hope this will help her move on.
