School Closure After Asbestos Found During Building Work

A secondary school could be closed until the new year due to asbestos debris found after demolition works.

Asbestos was discovered by contractors after a building on the site was demolished. The site was found to be contaminated with asbestos fibres.

The Department for Education decided to close the building so that more testing and a cleanup could be carried out at King Edmund School in Essex.

An extensive asbestos survey was carried out and the school was deemed safe but the school is to remain closed until the contaminated site has been cleared. You can read the full article here.
